The Nigerian Deaf Women in collaboration with Gallaudet University, Washington DC, held her second national conference and leadership training tagged “ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OF DEAF WOMEN FOR SELF-RELIANCE AND DEVELOPMENT ” between June 23 -27, 2019 in DRACC Abuja FCT Nigeria. The program was co-sponsored by Gallaudet University Washington DC, USA, CBM and the Nigerian Deaf Women.
Participants at the programme drawn from the six geo-political zones of Nigeria and specially invited NGOs like DWAN, CDMD, CBM and DTAN.
As usual training and discussions were done through active participation of the trainers and delegates. Some of the topics treated include discussions on life experience which gave enlightenment on the challenges members had dealt with at the onset of their various hearing losses and how these were and are still being resolved; and a group of Deaf panelists spoke on how they achieved economic empowerment and self-reliance. The importance of communication and strategies to be used while working with a new interpreter was taught and several mentorship / interactive sessions were held. All these gave impetus to networking for new friendships and business acquaintances.
There were obvious dedication of our women to put into practice all we learned and to teach others who could not be physically present at the training.
With all our hearts, we thank our sponsors and trainers. We also give God all the glory of our successes. Thank you.
